91³ÉÈ˶¶Òô¶ÌÊÓÆµforecasters best in the nation for 2nd time this academic year
The 91³ÉÈ˶¶Òô¶ÌÊÓÆµAtmospheric Science Program forecasting team has placed first in the nation in the National Collegiate Weather Forecasting Contest for the second time this academic year.
91³ÉÈ˶¶Òô¶ÌÊÓÆµplaced first for Mobile, AL, at the beginning of the contest last fall and recently won for the two-week period from January 15-25, 2001, for Dulles Airport, VA. The 91³ÉÈ˶¶Òô¶ÌÊÓÆµteam is now third overall among 18 universities after seven periods and ranked ahead of schools such as Penn State, Texas A&M and Florida State.
In the Dulles competition, three 91³ÉÈ˶¶Òô¶ÌÊÓÆµparticipants won in their respective divisions. Overall 91³ÉÈ˶¶Òô¶ÌÊÓÆµforecasters have won seven individual awards this year. Dr. Lynn LeBlanc has won two, for Nashville and Dulles. Patty Watts won for Dulles as did Jessica Stroupe. Derek Deroche finished first in his division for Nashville, as did Blake Michaeleski for Riverton, WY, and Lee Robertson for Mobile, AL.
After seven periods, 11 91³ÉÈ˶¶Òô¶ÌÊÓÆµforecasters are in the top 100 out of 910 total participants.
